2008 Olympic Trials
Brian Picklo (USA Stars/OKCDT Judo) won the preliminary rounds of the Olympic Trials in the -100kg division last week in Las Vegas, NV. The number one ranked judoka, Adler Volmar (Miami, FL), faced Brian after the Trials in the best 2 out of 3 rounds that are to be played if the number one seed is eliminated in the preliminary rounds. In a very controversial 3rd match, Adler Volmar was awarded the win to go on to be the representative for the US Judo Team. Picklo was named the alternate to the Summer Games.
Picklo, a former 2 time All American wrestler from Michigan State and 8th seed for the event, had an outstanding day, where he eliminated 3 of the top 4 ranked players in the weight class. Adler Volmar was the first to fall, followed by Djamaldin Aliev (Greenwood Village, Colo. / Denver Judo / USA Judo National Training Site at the Olympic Training Center) and then Dariusz Mikolajczak (Brooklyn, N.Y. / NYAC / Legrosports Starrett).
